Ready... steady...
Thailand's dictator has given up trying to disguise his true intentions. But the truth is that Prayuth is a power hungry military madman, who intends to crush all resistance from pro-democracy groups and impose his "new order" by force and intimidation.
The General has a brilliant plan and it's already spread out on his table: after the introduction of a NEW non-elected army junta, a fake Charter and bogus elections, Prayuth plans to quit as army chief and pretend he is a legitimate "Prime Minister".
All of these changes have only one objective, it's an exercise in window dressing to make the junta appear legitimate in order for them to stay in power for a long time, even after the so-called democratic elections scheduled for 2015.
But like all brilliant plans drawn up by a mad genius, there's always a weakness, and that weakness in well known to General Prayuth, which is why he is trying to fool Thai people into thinking he is a good guy.
The weakness? The General needs Thai people to submit to his plan. Only when this total submission has been achieved, can Prayuth proceed with his plan. But all the signs are, that it's not going to happen.
Only yesterday, anti-coup protestors demonstrated outside the US embassy eating sandwiches and reading books, taking advantage of the legal loophole allowed by the junta to a single pro-coup radical.
Marshal law
While those who participated in this event are being summoned by the army to be "re-educated", it is clear that pro-democracy groups have no intention of submitting to the junta and will almost certainly continue protesting peacefully.
And there lies Prayuth's dilemma. For so long as there is any resistance, the army junta will find it impossible to lift Marshal law and risk full scale protests against his regime.
Prayuth himself made it clear that the changes he is planning to make, in order to ruin Thailand's democracy and freedoms, will only be possible with the full co-operation of all sides.
But already, as General Prayuth tentatively considers lifting Marshal law, Thai resistance movements both at home and abroad, are getting ready.... steady... to bring down his junta!
